Diet of Oily Fish and Moderate Wine Consumption Reduce Skin Cancers

Monthly, I eagerly await the arrival of my Women’s Health Magazine to scour it for the latest in wellness.  In the new March issue, I was thrilled to read about the benefits of consuming oily fish and moderate wine related to skin cancer.  Over the past year, I have shifted my diet to mostly fish, vegetables, nuts, and an Omega-3 supplement.  The benefits, on all levels, have been very apparent.  I spend a lot of time outdoors, so the added benefit of fighting skin cancer I found fascinating.

According to the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, order some wine with your salmon to shore up that SPF.

Researchers evaluated the diets of more than 1000 people and found that those who ate a weekly serving of oily fish (such as salmon), developed 28 percent fewer potentially cancerous skin lesions and those who drank a half glass of wine everyday has 27 percent fewer.

Oily fish contains Omega-3 fatty acids, which may enhance skin resistance to ultraviolet radiation, while polyphenols in wine counteract sun damage.
